and…putting ‘er back together

I got the goods from the powder coater this afternoon.  Everything looks fantastic, as usual.  This will be a fun weekend!

I also painted a couple of parts myself.  I didn’t want quite as much build-up on the top triple clamp or a little bracket I made to hold the ‘on’ switch.  I got those painted this evening as well.

Josh got his frame back from the powder coater as well, so there should be some activity over on his blog shortly.  He’ll be painting his own rear wheel, and working on his tank soon also.

We have our local machine shop fit the stock steering stem into the modern fork clamps. It is expensive, but works great and is very solid. Classified Moto offers this as a service so check them out. Thanks!!

Hey guys, a bit off topic but I’ve got a question. I’m about to send a Virago to the powedercoaters and I was wondering if you guys yanked out the bearings for the swingarm pivot before you did yours? I’m worried about how they’ll fair in the oven. Thanks! You guys rock!

      Colin,

Yes! You defininitely need to pull the bearings. If you don’t, the grease will liquefy in the oven while they’re baking the Powdercoat. It will run out all over the frame. Nasty mess; it would ruin the finish.
